Beyond Chemicals and Heat: How UV-C Technology Helps Extend Shelf Life and Protect Food Quality.

As food manufacturers strive to meet increasingly stringent food safety standards, conventional disinfection methods such as chemical sanitizers and heat treatment continue to play an important role. However, these methods may also present challenges, including chemical residues, water consumption, high energy usage, potential effects on heat-sensitive products, and production downtime. This has created growing interest in complementary technologies that can further strengthen food safety while supporting operational efficiency and sustainability. Consumers today expect food that is not only safe but also fresh, minimally processed, and free from unnecessary chemical preservatives. At the same time, food manufacturers face increasing pressure to extend product shelf life, maintain product quality, and reduce operational costs without compromising food safety. Conventional disinfection methods, including chemical sanitizers and heat treatment, remain essential in many processes but may present challenges such as chemical residues, high water and energy consumption, or undesirable changes to heat-sensitive products. This session explores how UV-C technology provides an innovative chemical-free and non-thermal approach to reducing microbial contamination on food products, packaging, air, and food-contact surfaces. By lowering the microbial load at critical control points, UVC can help support longer shelf life, preserve product quality, and strengthen food safety as part of a comprehensive hygiene strategy. Through real industrial case studies from Dinies Technologies, attendees will discover how UV-C is applied in milk powder packaging, poultry processing, food packaging, conveyor systems, cleanroom airlocks, and production environments. The presentation will also demonstrate how the Dinies Naiopur and Atopur series can be integrated into existing production lines to complement conventional sanitation practices while improving efficiency and sustainability. Whether you are involved in food manufacturing, quality assurance, research and development, or production management, this session offers practical insights into how UV-C technology can help Malaysian manufacturers produce safer, higher-quality products while supporting longer shelf life and reducing reliance on chemical disinfection where appropriate.
